The Red Sea is located between the continents of Africa and Asia and is an inlet of the Indian Ocean. Eight different countries surround the sea, including Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Somalia and Sudan on the African side and Jordan, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Yemen on the Asian side. The Red Sea is renowned for its rich and diverse marine life which entails over 1,200 species of fish and 44 species of shark. Over 10 per cent of these species are entirely unique to the Red Sea ecosystem including numerous sea horses, starfish and corals.
